In Bruges

Filed under: Uncategorized — smackamack @ 11:29 pm

colin-in-brugesPlot: Having just carried out a particularly difficult hit in London, two hitmen seek shelter in Bruges, Belgium, only to find their views on life and death permanently altered by their interactions with the locals, the tourists, and a film crew. Colin FarrellBrendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes star in an action comedy from director Martin McDonagh

This was by far my favorite little cinematic surprise of the year.  I expected nothing when renting this film (only because Colin Farrell won best actor at the Golden Globes); however, i enjoyed this film so much that i watched it twice in the past week.  The acting is top notch, the location is beautiful and the writing is superb.  This is by far my stand out choice for best original screenplay.  I mean, can it get any better than Colin Farrell stating “If i was retarded and grew up on a farm Bruges might impress me, but i didn’t, so, it doesn’t”.

This film is a perfect mix of cleverly created and delivered comedic lines, drama, violence, and a touch of beauty shinning through its rough exterior.

I give this film **** and recommend it for ages 16+.  I do not recommend this film for people who are easily offended or afraid of violence.
