The Beach (2000) – Film Review

Filed under: Uncategorized — smackamack @ 4:23 pm

Plot: Twenty-something Richard travels to Thailand and finds himself in possession of a strange map. Rumours state that it leads to a solitary beach paradise, a tropical bliss – excited and intrigued, he sets out to find it.

I finally saw The Beach!  I had heard mixed things about this film over the years, but I really enjoyed it! Sure, it was a pretty indulgent film, violent and ridiculous, but totally fun! Plus, it had Leo DiCaprio…what could go wrong?  I loved the first half, and then the second half got a bit strange for me, but definitely worth watching.

There were two added surprises even whilst watching the film…A. It was directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire!) and B. it starred Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton) who I didn’t even know acted before last year.

The film itself I would recommend to a younger audience ages 16+ interested in adventure and finding themselves.  I give this film 3.75/5.

Ps. This movie will make you want to go travel.
