Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey Circus – Madison Square Garden

Yes, you read correctly, we went to the circus.  My friend Nathan REALLY wanted to go, so we decided just to look into it.  Turns out we could get 15 dollar tickets, so we went Sunday night.  Thank god we only paid 15 bucks, because it certainly wasn’t worth anymore than that.

44556197The actually atmosphere was great…Madison Square Garden, hotdogs, cotton candy (15 dollar cotton candy) and beer (yes I actually had a beer).  The first half of the show was pretty lame…a lot of stupid clowns.  However, the second half was actually really fun.  They had 13 tigers, and like 12 elephants!  The elephants were totally awesome and I loved them.  Although I feel badly for circus animals, they didn’t use them a lot in the show, which is probably a good thing.  We probably only saw them for about 10 minutes.

It was actually sad, there were a lot of animal protesters out front…but the only reason I am ok with this is because this is a big circus.  They can’t possibly treat them badly…unlike scary carnival animals, thats just sad.

Before the show I asked a little boy how the show was an he starred at me and just said “stop talking to me”.

In The Heights – Theater Review

On Sunday afternoon Mel and I were determined to find theater tickets.  So, we first entered into the lottery for Wicked but lost.  We were slightly dissapointed, but it was cool because we ended up getting great seats in the back of the orchestra for half price at In The Heights.  In The Heights was the 2008 Tony winner for best musical, and it was so much fun.

in-the-heights-3The story focuses on a block in Washington Heights, NY (Harlem?) were a bunch of different stories intwine regarding their ethnic backgrounds.  Some of the show is actually in Spanish…super cool.  What the show is best known for is its funky hip hop dancing and singing.  Some of the rap songs were just awesome.  This was actually one of the first shows I have seen in a while that actually had a great cast that could all sing.

I recommend this for anyone who is interested in theater and specifically for people who are new to theater.  Young audiences will love this show… 4/5 stars.

Below is my favorite number from the show…this was the performance last year the Tony’s.
